TransWEB: Building Dissident Platforms Through Virtuality
TransWEB: Building Dissident Platforms Through Virtuality (2024) is a digital publication organized by IFRC Graduate member and PhD Candidate Rodrigo D’Alcântara. It features essays by D’Alcântara and Brazilian transdisciplinary artists Dyó Potyguara, Romulo Barros, and Yná Kabê Rodríguez, Walla Capelobo and Sumé Aguiar.
The authors were invited to discuss notions of transnationality, trans-culturalism, trans-species, transsexuality, among other plural ways of thinking about the practice of Brazilian dissident art in dialog with North American epistemologies. This publication emerges from TransWEB residency held at the SBC Gallery in 2022.

Promoting and Protecting the Arts and Cultural Expressions of Indigenous Peoples: A Compendium of Experiences and Actions (Book)
Promoting and protecting the arts and cultural expressions of Indigenous peoples is an ongoing project undertaken by the Indigenous Futures Research Centre. Its goal is to bring together the knowledges and experiences of Indigenous artists, scholars, and community members on issues regarding the protection and promotion of Indigenous art, practices, and cultural expressions.
In 2021, a publication entitled Promoting and Protecting the Arts and Cultural Expressions of Indigenous Peoples: A Compendium of Experiences and Actions, edited by Tony Belcourt, Heather Igloliorte, and Dylan Robinson brought together over 30 contributors in conversation on these topics. In 2023 a website was created to expand upon the work done in the original publication. Please visit: www.PPIA-PPAA.ca
About the book:
This publication gathers first-hand experiences and perspectives on promoting and protecting the arts, cultural expressions, and artistic practices of Indigenous Peoples. The experiences and insights shared here articulate both the real-life encounters and challenges with misappropriation of arts, cultural expressions, and artistic practices, as well as some of the tools and solutions being advanced to address these challenges. Through this publication, we seek to advance a shared understanding of the issues and challenges of cultural misappropriation at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
Our hope is that the experiences and stories shared in this publication will encourage dialogue and the ongoing development of effective solutions to promote and protect Indigenous arts, cultural expressions, and artistic practices. We also hope that this work will help educate the public and the Canadian and international arts milieu about misappropriation and its negative social, cultural and economic impacts. In our view, this publication is part of an important effort to explore what is being done and what still needs to be done.

Promotion et protection de l’art et des expressions culturelle autochtones (Livre)
Promotion et protection de l’art et des expressions culturelles autochtones est un projet en cours entrepris par le Centre de recherche des futurités autochtones. Le projet consiste à rassembler les savoirs et les expériences d’artistes, de chercheurs et chercheuses ainsi que de membres des communautés autochtones sur des enjeux touchant la protection et la promotion de l’art, des pratiques et des expressions culturelles autochtones.
En 2021 paraissait une publication intitulée Promotion et protection de l’art et des expressions culturelles autochtones : un recueil d’expériences et d’actions, sous la direction de Tony Belcourt, d’Heather Igloliorte et de Dylan Robinson; l’ouvrage réunissait plus de 30 textes exprimant divers points de vue sur le sujet. Un site Web lié à ce projet où figureront des textes additionnels est en cours d’élaboration, et sa mise en ligne est prévue pour 2023. Le présent document est un recueil de divers points de vue et d’expériences de première main liées à la promotion et à la protection des arts, des expressions culturelles et des pratiques artistiques autochtones. Les expériences et les points de vue qui y sont présentés décrivent à la fois les interactions et les défis concrets liés à l’appropriation indue des arts, des expressions culturelles et des pratiques artistiques, ainsi que certains des outils et des solutions proposées pour relever ces défis.
Le présent document a pour but de faire progresser la compréhension commune des enjeux et des défis associés à l’appropriation culturelle indue aux échelons locaux, régionaux, nationaux et internationaux. Nous espérons que les expériences et les histoires présentées dans ce document favoriseront le dialogue et le développement continu de solutions efficaces pour promouvoir et protéger les arts, les expressions culturelles et les pratiques artistiques autochtones. Nous espérons également que ce document permettra de sensibiliser le public et le milieu artistique canadien et international à la question de l’appropriation indue et à ses conséquences néfastes sur les plans social, culturel et économique. Selon nous, le présent document s’inscrit dans le cadre d’efforts importants visant à examiner ce qui est fait et ce qui reste à faire.
